Best of 2007

Thu Dec 20, 2007, 2:45 AM
  • Mood: Neutral
  • Listening to: Reverend Bizarre
  • Playing: Insurgency
  • Eating: Sesame snacks!
  • Drinking: Tea
Here is my top 15 for the year.

15 Klute - The Emperor's New Clothes
Laid back yet driving jungle, unfortunately some of the tracks can get a wee bit repetitive.

14 Kanye West - Graduation
While a step down from College Dropout this is quite a solid and varied album.

13 M.I.A. - Kala
Militant yet fun hip hop, kind of like Public Enemy but more fun.

12 Pig Destroyer - Phantom Limb
Groovy grind with a nice ambient track at the end, great artwork too.

11 Aesop Rock - None Shall Pass
I've covered this already.

10 Reverend Bizarre - III: So Long Suckers
I didn't know them until *RHalpain told me to listen to this album. Now they gone. Fantastic doom metal and surprisingly for a two hour album it doesn't get boring, it keeps changing and holds your interest til the end.

9 Pharoahe Monch - Desire
Best hip hop album of the year? I think so.

8 Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam
This was my first delve into AC after having heard of them for quite a while, it impressed and entertained me greatly.

7 Wolves in the Throne Room - Two Hunters
It's black metal, no more, no less. Yet this is one of the most amazing albums you may ever hear, seriously.

6 Battles - Mirrored
I don't know what it is, I don't know how they make it or what they're saying but it's a damn fun album.

5 Chick Corea & Bela FlecK - Enchanted
For an album made with two instruments (piano and banjo) respectively, it's an outrageously diverse album and incredibly beatiful.

4 Deathspell Omega - Fas - Ite, Maledicti, in Ignem
I was going to have this at number one at one point, but then other albums happened. It's still amazing.

3 Desiderii Marginis - Seven Sorrows
His best album so far? Possible, they're all good, so you should get them all. It's ambient music, just so ya know.

2 Ulver - Shadows of the Sun
This is absolutely amazing.

1 Grails - Burning Off Impurities
This more so. You must listen to this album. YOU MUST.

This list is subject to change without warning.

I also loved the new Grails record but it wasn't good enough for my top 10:(

basically the music forum should be a place more hostile than the surface [of] the sun. ~jimmyjazz13

Homo sapiens non urinat in ventum.
interesting... I'm gonna check out grails cos of the praise, and klute cos I don't have a clue what 'jungle' really is.
A pretty nice list, though I myself would've reserved spots for Burial (believe the hype!), Panda Bear, The National, Grinderman, The Field, Beirut and Arcade Fire.

2007 was good for music.

When in doubt, blame the French.

"I was going to buy an iPod, but I hated the idea of becoming a silhouette" - Oscar Wilde

"I don't apologize for what I say, I'm sorry" - ~malice-lust
the whole Battles album is golden, but if you want to know what the best tracks are, look up Tonto, Tij (this one is interchangeable with a few of the other tracks) and Atlas.
